The founder

Why I built Boss.

I didn't build Boss because the world needed another quit-smoking app. It has plenty. I built Boss because I spent years breaking small promises to myself and calling it a habit.

"Just one." "Tomorrow." "After this week." Every broken promise was quietly teaching me the same lesson: that my word to myself meant nothing. The cigarette was never really the problem. The broken promise was.

I tried the apps. They counted my days and showed me statistics. But statistics never once stopped a craving at 2am, alone, when there was no one to talk to and the silence needed filling. What I needed wasn't a tracker. It was a coach who was actually there, in the moment, who remembered my patterns and told me the truth.

So I refused to build just another quit-smoking app. I believe smoking is a behavioural problem, and behavioural problems need behavioural coaching. That belief is the whole reason Boss exists, and why he works the way he does: calm, direct, and unwilling to let you lie to yourself.

If Boss helps even one person learn to keep promises to themselves again, the way I had to, then every late night building him was worth it.
